Spike,
Start with the 50s generation with me. That was my generation. We
were born in the great depression, came to boy or girl hood with the WW2 and
all our seniors off at war. Then when young adulthood rolled aroung there
was Korea.
We had the long hair movement in the late 40s. We had dope, liquor,
sex and all the other stuff. But, basically we seemed to feel that if you
had the opposite sex, cars to drive and a job to pay for it all things
weren't too bad. Supposing of course that no one was shooting at you.
I have been told that if pushed we were a deadly generation. We had
seen depression, war and even fought one ourselves so we knew there were bad
guys in the world and the best way to handle them was to get rid of them
fast. We had read the stories of Hitlers beginnings and saw no reason to
give a 2nd Hitler a head start.
Then along came the 60s generation. As far as I could tell nothing
was going on that hadn't been happening all along. Science & Technology were
constantly turning up a marvel of the week but then they always had. Liquor
and dope were available but that wasn't new. Each generation invents sex all
over again and believes they have discovered something no one else ever found
out about. The philosophys that were going around all seemed to be retreads
from the 19th century.
It seemed like they were going inside themselves individually and as a
generation to invent this brand new world. But, it wasn't new.
So, what can be said good about them? Like all generations they were
young and they had some fun.
