of giving people to option of cosmetic surgery, I can't say that I always
agree with the results. Not long ago, Melanie Griffith was on Larry King
Live and I was appalled. I mean, sure, she doesn't have any wrinkles, but...
the term "disfigurement" crossed my mind. Cher at least only looks weird.

I guess I was marked by my experiences in Navy Flight School in the 50s.
Flyers attract a lot of young beautiful women -- The City of Pensacola,
Florida isn't known as The Mother in law of Naval Aviation for nothing. In
addition there was hardly a centerfold or girlie calendar published that
didn't end up hanging on the walls of our Cadet BOQ. I looked.
One day I was going through the barracks and a fresh centerfold caught
my eye. For some reason, I stared until I realized that me and my buddies
were routinely dating and undressing better looking women than the centerfold
was.
After that I started really looking at the women I dated, knew or just
passed on the street. It didn't take long to realize that you can easily
find better looking women than ever show up to work with Hugh Heffner if that
is your standard of desirability.
Further, after the service I became an engineer working for a company
that made all sorts of hair products for women. It was a small company and
after a year or so I began to be asked my opinion of the women (looks only)
that we hired to model our products. Chiefly this meant picking the pictures
that went on the packages we used. Let me make it plain, someone else made
the final choice but I was always asked for my input.
That led to a lot of discussion about what we wanted in a model. That
in turn led eventually to my realizing that a lot of companies including the
men's magazines do not make a practice of picking the prettiest women
available -- they want a woman that folks can relate to.
All of the above is what led me to wonder about the selection criteria
for the models in the men's magazines. In the end I don't know who picks
those models but I do know that prettier ones are available on any busy
street or campus in the nation.
I won't even get into picking real women that are capable, competent,
and all the other good stuff -- Shakespeare said it in the Tempest I believe,
oh brave new world. I can apply that to women as well as his heroine did to
men. LOL
