The hardback edition of this book has been sitting on my desk the last few
weeks while I have been recovering from shingles (chickenpox revisited) -
read the first few pages - seems extremely good (in the meantime I've
finished off the Prelude to Dune novels and the Butlerian Jihad part one).
Much seems like what I and others have been thinking about for the last six
years... seems like a comprehensive attempt at integrating a number of
factors - I've a number of other books I should read (Kiln People, The
Forever Peace, and so on) but I end up skimming them because they aren't up
to integrated changes and discussing the interaction between culture and
immortality (Greg Egan leaves me with this feeling too). I've been saving
this book (The Golden Age) until I feel a little better and can meditate
upon it and related matters fully.
