Despite the quote to the contrary by roborat senior researcher Prof.
John Chapin in the Associated Press, robots were in fact used in the
World Trade Center and were successful by any reasonable metric of
performance. CRASAR teams were in New York within six hours of the first
building collapse and tasked to respond by the New York City Office
Emergency Management.

The robot teams assisted the New York Fire Department, FEMA, and
military rescuers in several critical tasks, including searching voids,
providing data on structural integrity of the slurry wall, and, sadly,
finding remains in places where technical search specialists using dogs
and traditional tools could not reach.
