Michael,
I am aware that decades ago there were people that considered
themselves anti communist. I am not sure why there is something wrong with
not wishing to surrender to the treatment the citizenry of socialist
countries have historically received. But, be that as it may. I suppose I
am just not enlightened. Murder, starvation, and terror isn't a standard
condition in the sort of country I wish to live in.
But in roughly 1955 Macarthy was sat down and rendered harmless.
Actually many people attacked him with great ridicule beginning in 1951 to my
certain knowledge. In fact I think the anti-Macarthy sentiments (stated
publicly by prominent people and organizations) began much earlier. I
remember the late 40s but truthfully I was a teener paying more attention to
my boxing team, playing sandlot football and a certain young lady than
politics.
That was then. But I haven't met a true anti-Communist in years.
Most of us have picked up the writtings of various Libertarian or Capitalist
writers and forgotten the socialists except where they immediately threaten
us. They have shown repeatedly that they fall of their own weight. We also
have been duped into propping them up from time to time.
I seem to have wandered around a bit so what am I saying? I say to
deny the charge of Anti Communism. We are not guilty and most listeners can
discern that fact if we point it out.
The charge of Anti Communism is only a debating tactic of the
socialists.
