The opposition candidates were 'supported' by the
Reagan/conservatives/US. Just as the opposition
terrorist military force operating out of Honduras and
Costa Rica had been 'supported'. So the 'free and
fair' electoral choice faced by "his citizenry" was
(1) an end to the war if they voted against Ortega, or
(2) more slaughter funded by the
Reagan/conservatives/US if they voted for him. Some
choice. Get real.

You mean by means of a broadly-supported popular (as
in "of the people") revolution, overthrew a
Reagan/conservatives/US supported, un-elected dictator
who received his military training in the US. Get
real.

Baloney! I challenge you to support the above
nonsense with anything not from the clown school of
jingoistic crapola. You can't, because it ain't true.
Problems with the Miskito Indian? Yup. Hyped to the
max by the Reagan era press? Yup. Next.

The Contras killed between 10,000 and 30,000,

(depending on the source cited:
http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/warstat4.htm)

mostly civilians.

(You know, soft targets--but who can blame them?
School teachers, health care workers, and agricultural
workers can be ambushed, tortured, raped, and killed
with a lot less inconvenience than soldiers.)

Now if you take into consideration that the total
population of Nicaragua at the time was 3.2 million
(http://www.unchs.org/habrdd/conditions/centamerica/nicaragua.htm),
then the suffering inflicted on them by the
Reagan/conservative/US warmongers was between 292 and
876 "9/11 equivalents".

"9/11 equivalent" is my new unit of inflicted human
suffering. On 9/11, 3000 Americans were killed out of
a total population of 280 million. About one out of
every 100,000. Americans--the people of the
non-Muslim world generally, but Americans in
particular-- consider this to have been a very bad
thing. A definitively bad thing. An acutely and
personally felt bad thing. Perhaps even something
which we could use in future as a standard of human
suffering.

On that basis 10-30,000 killed out of a total
population of 3.2 million--the death toll/suffering in
flicted on the Nicaraguan people by the
Reagan/conservatives/US--comes to between one out of
every 320 and one out of every 107 persons in the
country. Per capita, that's between 282 and 876 times
the death toll/suffering inflicted on the US on 9/11.

By conservatives. That's your boys, Ron. "Have you
no shame, sir?"
