Looks like we have a clearly defined protagonist to carry the mantra for
the anti-immortalist, deathist elite. I'm talking about Bush's
appointed bioethics advisor, the doggedly pragmatic Leon Kass. It seems
that Mr. Kass has it in for anyone who thinks that living forever is a
good idea. Kass was in Toronto recently where he gave a lecture
entitled, "Why not Immortality?". in which he stated just how immoral
and selfish it would be to try and live longer than our grandparents.
Not only that, but he suggested we'd be so down right bored to tears
that we'd never to be able to enjoy another sunset again.
Thanks to Simon Smith and the Betterhuman's team for putting up the good
fight. Smith and fellow staff writer, George Dvorsky, submitted a press
release to the Toronto media. Also, Smith took the time to do an
excellent in-depth analysis of the topic while adding a few ideas from
myself. So, before you go and write your congressman, take a look at
what we had to say.
