Tiny correction, friend Robert: rads and Grays are easy, they are both defined in terms of raw radiation
"input"(joules per mass unit). Other units that try to indicate the contributed dose-as-*damage* are the
complicated ones you are thinking of, such as the Sievert or the REM (Roentgen-Equivalent-Man).
