Interesting thread... If there is longevity benefit to Gilbert's [an effect I
would benefit from], the selection power may be small. If the added years
came at the end of life only [i.e. little increased survival in middle age],
there would be less reproductive selection. None in females, perhaps little
for males.
All rampant speculation of course. And then there is the endless discussion
of increasing the average life span [squaring off the curve] vs increasing
the maximum lifespan....
