There's a couple of things I wonder about the death penalty. Has anyone
actually compiled any credible stats on the chances of innocents
getting executed?
>From an absolute community risk point of view these could be stacked
against the number of deaths arising from repeat offenders. IE. Putting
the morality aside, is it better (personally safer) to run the risk of being
killed by a repeat offender AND not have capital punishment, or is
better to have it and run the risk of being "framed" or "snafu'ed" out of
your "innocent" life.
Also if you've been a bit of a sod and know you are facing it, what's
the incentive to either give yourself up peacefully in an armed standoff,
or not to go on committing capital crimes with the view that "how
many times can they kill you?"
