This agrees well with past studies in both humans and mice that have
shown substantial gene expression changes between young and old
individuals in only about 1% of genes.

See work by:

Richard Lerner and Peter Schultz (Science: February 8, 2000)
- only about 1% of genes profiled in human skin tissue changed their
expression as humans aged.

and:

Richard Weindruch and Tomas Prolla (Science: August 27, 1999)
- only about 1% of genese profiled in mouse skeletal tissue changed
their expression as mice aged
