Actually I believe that the most honest system is to have a minimum
pension from government, as a baseline income. Then you can have your
own private pension on top of that.
A private pension can dissapear, as you have allready discovered in the
US. And what government is then going to let the pensioners starve to death?
We might as well admit that private pensions will allways be defacto
"insured" by government. So if there is fixed pension, the government
can in good conscience say "so you lost your pension fund? Tough luck.
No hollidays in southern France, but at least you won't starve."
This way we all pay to the pension funds and we all benefit equally.
