Somehow I had been assuming that they would even start off with unequal
amounts of stock. That's the way it worked on the Whalers, etc. The
captain would put in the most, and generally had a controlling voice,
though the crew *could* unite against him. It was rare that this was
done according to formal procedures :-), but I believe that they were
specified. But every crew member got a "sign on bonus" of so much
stock, depending on how he was hired, and how well he bargained. Then,
if he choose, he could buy more. And earn more by working. But the
divisions were un-equal from the start. (The captain contributed the
ship, and that contribution is hard to match.)
