I wouldn't want to advocate anything illegal on a public forum - but
this in conjunction with a recent work issue gave me a fun idea for
activism. I work at an ISP and I recently bore witness to a
distributed denial-of-service attack. A handful of our clients across
the country who were running in unprotected-MS mode all simultaneously
launched a DoS against some poor IP in Canada.

But it got me thinking... what would I do if I had unfettered access to
(presumably) dozens of insecure machines? Why bother with a DoS attack
when I could do something productive like install a SETI@Home client -
or something that will donate spare cycles to help finding the cure for
cancer?

Grassroots campaigns involving technology interest me because they
sometimes allow you to sidestep the need for money.
