Amara - as an Italian who left the country some 20 years ago, for the
reasons you describe, and never went back, I appreciated your article very
much.
Italy had a great past, the present is not so good, and the future looks
much worse.
<<<One needs only to stand on a Rome street during rush hour, becoming dizzy
with the whirl of mosquito-scooters, to know that Italy is a society in
motion.>>>
This is very true (try Napoli it is worse), too bad you can feel this motion
only on the street.
<<<I suggest making use of the current discussion of the role of science in
Italian culture, not as a way of lamenting past actions, but instead as a
way of embracing the past and present accomplishments and of channeling
Italy's endless energy to create seeds for the next Renaissance to germinate
and flower.>>>
This sentence is so beautiful but where is this discussion of the role of
science in Italian culture??? To me it seems that it is going to remain what
it has always been in the second half of the 20th century: nil.
So you are moving to Italy?
To all Italians: yes I love our country very much (btw I really do).
