I was paraphrasing what Howard Bloom wrote here.
http://www.howardbloom.net/islam.htm
I believe he interpreted the following, which is at the bottom of his
article in the referrences as meaning this. I trust if he wrote it into a
book it has the meaning he attributed to it.
[begin quote]
. Said Mohammed, "I have bequeathed to you that which will always be a
guide to you, if you will take hold of it; the Book of God and the
practices of my life." This saying and its implications have been critical
in the development of Islam. (Mohammed Heikal, The Return of the Ayatollah,
p. 80.)
. "I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above
their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them. The Qu'ran,
downloaded from America Online's "Islam Library," original upload 1996,
"Al-Anfal"--sura 12.
"...And slay them wherever ye catch them...." The Qu'ran, "Al-Baqara"--sura
191.
[end quote]
