I currently live in a small town (pop 13k) which is the core of an area
with a pop of about 100,000 within 30 miles radius. It's been ranked
the 2nd most livable small town in the US a couple years ago, and high
bandwidth access is available, if you are in the right location. Cable
internet is coming in next year. It's currently available 20 miles to
the south of us. The town immediately north of us, Hanover, was just
featured in Wired for its college, Dartmouth, having a campuswide
wireless network (the article is recommended reading), and since so
many Dartmouth students live in my town, Lebanon, I've been thinking
that it might be profitable to launch a wireless network here as well.
