Of course in the end they too are going to get their comeuppance when they
find out that the Roman Empire never actually collapsed and that the whole
thing was just are really, really long-term and well though out strategy to
propagate the necessary social and technological conditions for the
establishment of the enlightenment, capitalism, and ultimately molecular
nanotechnology. As the Chinese technologist gazes into his stolen 3D
scanning tunneling/imaging microscope at his brand new general purpose
replicator, a Roman Centurion bashes in the door and impales him on his
short sword ;-)
