Yes, I agree. Anything less than an instantaneous destructive
duplication would result in two distinct individuals.
To be genuine, a destructive teleportation would need to occupy no more
time than the smallest meaningful division of time. This would be the
time required for a photon to traverse one Planck length: 10 -43
seconds.
Gene Roddenberry may have known what he was doing but they should have
fired the special effects people. :)
