In the early eighties the UK was bombarded with 'What If ?' type
doomsday films about nuclear attacks. These films , such as 'The Day after',
'When the wind blows' and 'Threads' instilled a healthy or unhealthy paranoia
in me. This combined with the events of 911 prompted me to buy some survival
equipment, namely NBC suits etc just in case the worst should ever happen. I
have also made some 'admittedly half arse' provisions to improve
survivability of an attack. Be it Nuclear, Biological or chemical.
These survival aids, as I will call them didn't cost a great deal,
took little more than a few hours surfing to find and order and havent
changed my way of life in any way. SO when you mention to someone that you
have a couple of dozen military grade, Vacuum wrapped NBC suits etc just in
case, Why do they look at you like you are Jeffrey Darmer or A member of the
Bundy Family (either Ted or AL) ???

Surely doing some simply things to improve your odds is a common sense
course of action. rather than burying your head in the sand and praying the
day never comes ?.

I cant be the only Extropian that has a few survival aids. What kind
of provisions have others made ? Has anyone gone for the full Lead lined
concrete bunker full of a years supplies ? or just a few odds n sods like
myself ?
