Yes, I exaggerated in the opposite direction; but I stand by my
rejection of your original statement that DNA "controls" the operation
of neurons. The mechanisms of protein synthesis and signaling may
well involve DNA, but the extent to which they do so is essentially
identical in all humans; I suspect most mutations in this area would
prove fatal or cause severe neurological disorders. Everything that
a neuron does that makes it interesting as part of who I am (and
remember, that's the context of this discussion--let's not lose it
in details) is under the control of the environment external to the
neuron, and is merely /enabled/ by the DNA machinery.
