say to my friends that I have become a "transhumanist", they generally look at me with a
mix of surprise and disappointment. Something in their eyes seems to say "Oh no, not
you!", and clearly expresses that they have no idea of what is - and is not -
Transhumanism. The fact is that most people are not yet aware of the transhumanist
initiative, and in particular of the fact that it is all about Science. For me, both of
them are tightly linked, and I even think that Transhumanism is, or should be, the future
of Science...

transhumanists, what do they mean? What do these self-described transhumanists believe?
What do they want? What follows is an attempt, at least in a general way, to answer these
questions. As within all large groups of people, there are, of course, significant
variations; the beliefs and goals of one transhumanist may not be the same as the next.
But we can, I believe, describe a basic set of tenets that are common to most
transhumanists and that animate the movement as a whole...
