In a message dated 9/28/2002 9:14:35 AM Central Standard Time,
bradbury@aeiveos.com quotes Samantha: We have caused the deaths of hundreds
of thousands of people in Iraq." Then answers her, "Huh? By "we", I presume
you mean the U.S. The U.S. (and its allies) caused the deaths of thousands,
perhaps hundreds of thousands of Iraqis soldiers only *after* they invaded
Kuwait. Any deaths due to sanctions are the responsibility of the United
Nations (not the U.S.). Furthermore, you fail to take into account how many
people Sadaam might have had killed in northern and southern Iraq if he were
entirely free of sanctions."

Robert,
I believe if you will check ot the facts the U. N. didn't cause those
deaths anymore than the U. S. did. As I recall the situation after the Gulf
war provision was carefully made so Sadaam would have the money he needed for
humanitarian purposes. Later it came out that he preferred to spend the
money for weapons both conventional and WMD than to buy food and medicines
for his country's children, elderly or otherwise incapacitated.
Robert, without getting into a case of parsing sentences I am pretty
sure you never meant to infer in any way that the U. N. did cause the deaths
of Iraqi children and so on. But, I do want to be careful on that point
otherwise I could just keep quiet.
If I may make one general remark, not everyone that offers us "facts"
is our friend nor do they necessarily have the integrity of the average
copperhead. This seems to be a case in point -- a piece of misinformation
traceable back to Sadaam himself if I remember correctly.
