I'm a voracious reader of many different kinds of literature. When I
travel, either for work or pleasure, I don't like to take a science
book with me, instead I grab whatever nonscience book happens to strike
my fancy as I pack, and I take that with me as my reading material.

On one trip three years ago to The Netherlands (to Noordwijk), I read a
really fine Robert Ludlum spy novel (Acquitaine Progression) on the
train. It's been years since I read one of his books, and I forgot how
good of a writer he can be (I've only encountered one bad book of his,
so far). What was so fun about his novel, was that I was right in the
middle of many of the locations mentioned in the book. My train was
going through Bonn, as the main character in the book was traveling
through Bonn. My train was going through the Netherlands, as Ludlum's
character was having all kinds of adventures in Amsterdam. This aspect
added a new dimension to my reading.

New reading dimensions have occurred on my bike trips as well. I
usually grab the smaller thinish books from my bookshelf because they
fit in my bike packs better. On my last two bike trips, the books I
grabbed were small but deep philosophical stories, the first one
was almost a children's story about a shepherd boy in Andalucia,
Spain, the second one was about a man's pilgrimage on the Santiago
route. Both of my bike trips (Tenerife, Portugal) were in that
part of the world, with abundant evidence of the life depicted in
those stories. So these books, picked out from my shelves with
intuition and very little conscious thought, added large dimensions
to my biking.

Be-aware of what your subconscious mind is saying to you. :-)
