Thanks very much for posting this, it is very interesting.

There is already a reference to something being discussed onlist
today.

It was John Locke who accepted as a law of nature that each person
owns himself, ergo his labor and whatever this labor touches of as
of yet untouched nature.

This was the ethic of the early settlers, the native people had
done nothing with the land, no "improvements", so to them
technically they didn't "own" it.

Note I am not arguing the right/wrong of this, merely pointing out
the justification and it's source.
