Damien,
Just to put this whole Christian or God thing in context, or at least
into the context I use to view it. Imagine a Venn Diagram. Draw a big
circle that represents the entirety of what is known plus all that is
knowable -- a Christian might call that what God knows. Now place a dot
somewhere in the circle and let it represent what one individual knows. I
conclude that we are all searchers.
No one here can drag God kicking and screaming into my living room and
prove that he exists. No one here can state that they have searched the
entire universe plus all the universes of the eleven strings theory and can
prove that he does not exist.
Like Samantha and some others I have also felt the call in my past and
spent two years studying for the diaconate. The only way I can make sense
out of the various holy writtings that I have seen has been to view them as a
history of man's search for God and meaning -- not as the final word on
anything. I have heard both believers and non-believers get dogmatic based
upon the scriptures and IMHO both totally fail to make their case.
Thank you for hearing me out.

What do I believe? That trying to bring meaning out of the observed world is
a serious and worthy pursuit.
