I understand why you say that, and you may be right. OTOH, the way the military has been used in the past few decades has left a lot of people rather bitter. I don't think that they correctly identify who they should be bitter toward, but I sure understand their feelings. The government has disgraced the military repeatedly, both by using them for immoral purposes, and then by not standing behind them properly. That's a pretty bad combination, and what's most easily visible tends to be what people blame.
