You're confusing an example with the discussion.

In "Starship Troopers" the only difference in rights I could see
was the right to vote, and you needed to serve a term of Federal
Service which included a whole range of things other than military
service.

I'm dropping this discussion since the list consensus is that there
is nothing special about service to one's country.

In fact if this consensus reflects national opinion, then anyone
who goes into the military is obviously some sort of an idiot.

Clearly with this new understanding no attempt should be made to
use military force against Iraq or anyone else, less my poor
misinformed associates come to harm. In fact the military should be
disbanded immediately for their sake.

So what if we lose a city or 10, not our problem....

And to think I have new license plates telling the whole world what
an idiot I was.
