Max,
Let me quote close to the end of your email, "Reason, we really *are*
on the same side." I'm glad you said that as we really are on the same side
but being reminded of that fact does no harm at all.
You were talking about the the high tech consultants training people
and said quite properly they didn't work with unskilled people. As a usual
rule that seems to be so. However there is no need for them too. That is
exactly what the front line supervisor is so good at.
I once was working with chinese workers that did not speak more than a
word or two of English. The supervisor was an American.that spoke no
Chinese. Oh honesty in reporting requires me to say that they did share two
words for good and bad. Actually the words were, "Number one" & "Number ten."
I had just taken a lecture in how to instruct and had been given a
card for my shirt pocket that explained the rudiments of teaching a new
worker in a factory setting. The supervisor started teaching a new worker a
job so I stood back with my instruction card in my hand and watched her --
the supervisor hit every point on the card. Gently and with no common
language she still managed to convey everything she needed to convey.
I have seen some of the roughest cobs you ever met walk into a factory
and get taught how to work.
My point is that we have the needed assets. What we need are
investors and smart leaders.
