Hilarious story, Jeff!

Phantasmic. Their sticky toes were so ... tickly on my skin.

I don't think that I endeared myself to the geckos as much as they
endeared themselves to me, however.

The critters used to live and hide in red ginger (these are large,
cone-shaped flowers: http://www.csdl.tamu.edu/FLORA/beverly/bt0003.gif)
plants in my family's back yard. I captured the geckos, to play
in my little houses, and I gave them baths.

Heh!

One fine afternoon in 1960, Mrs. Graps, with a pregnant belly full
of Amara, was luxuriously relaxing in a bubble bath, contemplating
her navel, no doubt. Unbeknownst to her, a gecko was struggling hard
to keep its sticky toes firmly mounted to the steam-coated bathroom
ceiling. Soon.....

Plop!

On goes the gecko, on top of Mrs. Graps' pregnant belly.

"AAAAAAAAhhhhhh!", she screams, and leaps out of the tub.

"What's wrong, honey ?!", Mr. Graps yells, running into the
bathroom.

The Amazing Gecko, leaps out of the suds, and scampers away.

(true story, too! My parents sometimes offered this story as an
explanation for why Amara had an affinity for geckos.)
