In the Italian online community has anyone used 'gesticons',
analogous to emoticons?

For example,

/U\ = "What the fuck do you mean?"

I'm only half-serious, but it seems to me that 'gesticons'
(the idea and label suggested by a friend in email) could
add dimensions to the flat email strata for communication.

for different cultures......
