I dunno. I read Samual R. Delaney about why people came to cities in the
first place. Not for trade, but for sex. Safe (heh) anonymous sex with
strangers instead of the lifelong social approbation you would get
having sex with someone you weren't supposed to have sex with in your
tiny village. Sex in the city.

Maybe Gaia invented intelligent life so we would send radio and
television signals into space thus inviting other planets to come have
sex with us.

Of course I expect this idea to have listwide condomnation, so won't
argue it.
