Dear Spike:
For every scientist that does what he/she does for the simple love
of discovery, you will find a scientist driven to do what does
because his daughter died of leukemia, his girlfriend broke his
heart, the government next door wiped out his village, or his buddy
made a bet with him. Do you really think this 'human' (whatever)
element can be separated from science? I don't. I don't think I
would want to, either.
Also, by removing this 'human (whatever) element, you might lose the
interest of those who want to learn more about science (I'm thinking
of the younger folk).
...jumping in this discussion in the middle... I might have missed
the initial point..
