a blending of donor and recipient immune systems

extropes,

I found this to be interesting. A bone marrow--but,
more to the point, the immune system that goes with
it--transplant that adds a second immune system (the
donor's) to the (recipient's) original. The possible
benefits appear to be (1) prevention of exogenous
tissue rejection (this has been achieved already, in
the very first human clinical cases), and (2)
restoration of healthy immune system function (in the
investigative pipeline). I wonder if it might have
theraputic value in the treatment of autoimmune
disorders--rheumatoid arthritis, ms, lupus, etc?

Anyway, seems like good news to moi.

Combined kidney and bone marrow transplantation allows
patients to discontinue anti-rejection drugs
