Robert Bradbury noted:
<<You have a couple of problems -- what happens if it drops out
of radio contact (flying low). (One could have the plane have enough
intelligence to take over the controls and return to a higher
altitude). I think the plane that crashed in PA had significantly
exceeded its flight margins (flying at very high speed very close
to the ground) -- that should trigger an automatic response on
the part of the plane to correct the situation. These aren't
"rocket science" type improvements.
I think the real fear is that ground control could be taken
over by terrorists. Bruce Willis had a film with a related
plot, though I don't remember the name right now. That
movie would have been even worse if the terrorists could
take control of the planes and start steering them into the
ground.>>
Your opinion seems better then mine, because it seems I am 'fighting' against
yesterdays terror attack, rather then what will now come in the months ahead.
Your suggested improvements seem very cogent regarding a low-grade AI to
defeat terrorist activities. The ground control had better be an unprotected
major hub, tp be take over. If arabic voices are heard giving orders to
pilots, I am guessing that would raise mental alarms in the cabin to
disregard. Using a converted North American would be a 'work-around' for the
terrorist, though how long could they issue commands before a SWAT team kills
them?
The commondos avenging themselves against American hegemony or the Crusaders
and the Jews, as Al Qeida phrases it, will focus on easy to do, high return
targets; such as data centers and power lines. Hence, my agressiveness in
eliminating this threat from the jihaddis. According to Professor Peter Gale
at the University of Pennsylvania, (he predicted the attack on the WTC and
the Pentagon in 98) the Jihaddis have a decent chance to dismember the USA by
using directed attacks on data centers and power stations and lines. The more
time they have the more likely they will be successful.
