Mike,
I guess I see all such whether left or right as being someone wanting
to have power over their fellow man. I don't particularly care whether it is
left wing or right wing. I don't care whether it is Tony Blair, George Bush
whom I like, or Harry the Hun they all are seeking power.
When it comes to government versus anarchy I see the same situation.
Even if we did away with all government and as an example rented our
policemen and courts there would still be individuals that tried to
accumulate power over others. Some would succeed.
As to passing laws, we have had some of our best people and possibly
some of our worse doing that for roughly 4,000 years. I don't believe
another few dozen laws are going to materially change anything except
possibly over a very short haul.
On the other hand I can see four things that will work to an extent.
1. Keeping the right to vote.
2. Keeping the right to bear weapons.
3. Recognizing that anyone that promises to do something for us is seeking
power.
4. Keeping eternally vigilant and ready to apply the three above as
necessary.
Even with that program some dude is going to out smart us every now
and again.

Sorry to be so negative on utopias and discussion of the same but
after 67 years I have learned to fall back on my ancient & honorable rights
as a Missourian. <VBG> Would I temper any of the above. Well, I have
learned to beware of Mort the Mooch that thinks he can get something for
nothing as a bigger threat than Harry the Hun. Mort is the enabler that
brings Harry to power.
