I wonder *why* everyone says "dismantle the illegal settlements"?
Why not simply have Israel pay the Palestinians for the land and
have the settlers live under Palestian rule? There are Palestinians
that live quite peacefully under Israeli rule.

Facts not in evidence. This may be the goal of Hamas and several other
terrorist organizations, but months ago several Arab states proposed
recognizing Israel's right to exist. If the NY Times is accurate most
Palestinians today are wishing they could reset things back to the
Camp David agreements and move forward from there.
