There's a very good article about the work of space artist Chesley
Bonestell in the current issue of American Heritage:

   http://www.americanheritage.com/it/2002/01/spaceart.shtml

This is well worth reading, especially for those list members who may be
too young to recall the impact of Bonestell's work on the public's
awareness of space and Bonestell's relationship with the people who made
humanity's first great leap off of Earth. I'm not: Bonestell's vision
was without a doubt the electrifying spark that ignited my generation's
love of space exploration. If there was ever an example of how art and
science can come together to have important effects in the real world
through the transmission of attractive memes, Chesley Bonestell's life
and work is it!
