I read in space.com that space towers can be lowered as a strand and then
thickened strand by strand by robotic runners travelling up and down

Some info directions on space towers/rotating tethers at

how about a straight railway between the Earth orbit and moon orbit? With
accelerator pod attached? Materials problems? Gravitational distortion
problems? Or a short linear accelerator? Rotating space tethers can be
powered from Earth's magnetic field... Possibilities in Jupiter's immense
magnetic field?
