I understand this part, although I would bet a workaround could be
found (sending them a xerox of some 'official' piece of paper about
your kids in home schooling, for example. It's worth a try.).
BTW: I sent the software distributor for Maple a fax of an 'official'
piece of paper about my student status, one day before my final PhD
exam and that status expiring. I never had a student ID card. The
German distributor was pretty relaxed about what form of student
documentation I provided.

I don't know what you are referring to, here.. I bought Maple
privately from one of their distributors in Germany. (A small science
software company). I found the distributor through the international
portion of Maple's web site.

It's OK if you have found other solutions, and I don't intend to push
it. I only hate to see Maple getting a bad reputation for something
that I don't think is true or accurate. Like I said, it's a lovely
piece of software (have used it off and on since the late 80s).
