The book I recommended to the list awhile back "Natural Capitalism"
is all about this.
There is a chapter (2) on Hypercars/buses/trucks for example. One
of the reasons you see everybody working on hybrids now is that
these people put the concept in the public domain in 1991. They
talk about completely remaking industrial processes for dramatic
productivity increases and energy/material savings. They also
correctly use "ephemeralization" and correctly state that nanotech
will make the technological portions of the book irrelevant.
Very interesting reading, a definite must have.
