M. Dickey quoted:

<<The total budget for fusion research in the United States
currently stands at about $250 million per year- less that half the cost of
a Shuttle launch, or, in real dollars, about one-third of what it was in
1980. Under these circumstances, the fact that the fusion program has
continued to progress and now is on the brink of ignition is little short of
remarkable."

Yes and there was a sustained burn-rated of 210 seconds noted in New
Scientist yesterday, however, this is nowhere near the necessary continuous
reaction system required by a commercial reactor. It might make a handy space
drive tho'. Your nuclear fission reactors have a chance if they can be made
attack resistant, and demonstarted to be safer then the second generation
reactors built in the boom years of the 60's and 70's. They also need to be
integrated with a national energy policy that emphasizes conservation tech
for cars, and suplemental energy sources too.
