No, it's one senseless and unnecessary death and one sensible and
very necessary death.

The purpose of executing the murderer is twofold, one, punishment
for the act committed, their own life being the only thing of even
remotely equivalent value. (restitution) I of course would argue
that the life of a murderer is worth considerably less, but that is
the best they can do. Two, to demonstrate to anyone else who even
remotely contemplates the possibility of murdering someone else
that they will share the same fate.

In other words, nothing to gain and everything to lose.
