If you can't delete them in the mail program, you could try copying your mail
file, and then editing the original with a text editor to get rid of the
offending pieces. If it works, get rid of you copies. If it doesn't, copy
it back.
With the mail programs that I use, this process would work, but I make no
guarantees about yours.
