No rocket science there. PhDs train you for lead research positions but
there are 10 or more new PhDs every year for every suitable position.
So most people put in 5-7 years of very hard work at very low pay
to end up teaching at a community college or counting frogs somewhere.
It's just not worth it unless you really, really like the work. Few are
willing to tolerate the sacrifices. I think I would, but between savings,
my boyfriend, and my family, I really don't have to, so I don't know
for sure.
