The urge for revenge is, yes, deep in our society, but also
in our genes. And your statement that a high level of
violence creeps in and out of society---almost cyclically
I would agree---has to be understood to be *relative* levels
of violence. Actually, humans are by far the most peaceful
primate, and modern society is by far more peaceful than
any of its predecessors.
