I've just joined the list, having been active at bjklein.com for a while.
I am a Singularitarian and transhumanist and neo-Tiplerian.
I believe that there are a number of interesting issues ahead including the
issue of Stasis Shock to be experienced after the Future Shock we are
beginning to pass through (in the fashion of a kind of aggravated Toffler).
Mind you, for some (those boosted and self-directed) of us we can rewire
ourselves to make the passage easier! Stasis Shock could be viewed as when
we hit our heads on the local ceiling (of maximum underlying "scientific"
knowledge)... social knowledge of course, is ever-changing and
ever-unfolding... or at least, one imagines this scenario holds for
several/many dozens of billion years or so...
I also believe that one central reality we will be facing is our forthcoming
absolute control over the environment. This does not imply absolute
permeability of the environment to sensory observation and concurrent lack
of privacy... it DOES imply that the concept of a separate "natural"
environment (separate to sentient instruction or parameter-setting) is just
about over. "Nature" as far as trees an so on go is an aesthetic choice
(leaving the issue of sentient but non-conscious sentient beings and
foochains to one side for the moment)...
