Not as much as you may believe. IIRC some 20-30% of PhD
scientists claim some religious belief in recent surveys. Lower
than in the general populations to be sure. Fundamentalist
beliefs of certain types fall off faster with more education.

You are over-generalizing here. I know of more than a few
mainstream PhD people who are New Age.
