Yes. The proponents of fighting global warming use accelerated time scales
to help enlist support for their cause. Images in movies, such as the
statue
of liberty in the sea, is an example of an absurd but striking image
that captures the
imagination while not being based in reality, any more than the half-human
fly in the spider web in The Fly. Movies, being art, do not require
explanation.

Scientists seem to agree on at least one aspect of global warming: any
sea level change will be gradual. No single person will notice much sea
level rise in their natural lifetimes. If this phenomenon is presented as a
gentle thousand-year transition, most people would be OK with it. Most
might consider it a positive change for the planet, since we have so many
lifeforms that do so well under warm and wet conditions, yet not so many
in the colder extremes.

Honest to evolution, Harvey, this planet could do with some warming. It
will not cause us to go extinct. Or even suffer much economically. Look
at the up side. This planet has been warmer before, things were just fine.
So we lose a few penguins. What good are they anyway? We get in
return all those tropical things that will grow way up north. spike
