I don't want to argue philosophies, but my understanding [ and I have studied
and practiced Shamballa Training -a secular Buddhism as well as a Tibetan
variety] is that there is one thing that is not compounded.

So there is no contradiction in Buddhism. They postulate a monism, the true
nature of life, the universe, and everything, the un-differentiated [like
Anaximander in the pre-socratic tradition]. The compounded things are
transitory and subject to suffering. Enlightenment is to see that all this
compounded stuff is illusion.
